Consultation has concluded

Image of a nursery

We previously consulted (January to February 2023) on a proposal to consider the future viability and the closure of Ashgate Nursery School as a result of falling pupil numbers. Thank you to the 225 people who responded. The consultation results can be viewed in the complete proposal document.

Notice is given that Derby City Council intends to close Ashgate Nursery School (18 Stepping Lane, Derby, DE1 1GJ) from 31 December 2023.

Please take the time to read the complete proposal and make comments or objections in writing to:

School Organisation and Provision Team, Derby City Council, The Council House, Corporation Street, Derby, DE1 2FS

or by email to school.proposals@derby.gov.uk .

Comments must be received by Tuesday 6 June 2023. Anybody can object to, or comment on, the proposal.

Background

Ashgate Nursery School has seen a falling number of children accessing their 2, 3 and 4 year-old early years provision for a number of years.

Data, also, shows that COVID-19 has had a significant impact on the take up of early years provision at Ashgate Nursery School throughout the academic year with children accessing places during the Autumn and Spring terms being significantly lower than in the Summer terms.

To minimise disruption to children, parents and families, the proposal is to retain the Central Nursery School because it can accommodate the children currently attending Ashgate Nursery School.
