City Centre Theme - Business and Creativity
The city centre does not currently have a strong office market and so a key objective of the Vision should be to address this. We need to invest in our office stock to ensure that there is a variety of good quality buildings to meet modern needs and that there are sufficient sites for new development. New office accommodation should be located within a redefined Central Business District (CBD) and specialist clusters will be encouraged. We will provide support to office occupiers wishing to locate in the city centre and help with business formation and development.
Whilst Derby has a developing creative sector, we would like to focus these businesses into a new ‘Creative Quarter’ in the historic core of the city centre. This will help to stimulate synergies between businesses and increased use of historic buildings, providing unique workspaces for a variety of diverse businesses.
Key discussion points in this section included:
- Creating an Office Market
- Flexible Workspaces
- A More Focussed Central Business District (CBD)
- A Creative City
Business and Creativity
New city centre office developments should be concentrated in a defined area to increase vibrancy/interaction between different businesses and other city centre activities like shops, bars and restaurants.
The Ambition document identifies:
- a more focused Central Business District (CBD)
- a proposed area for a 'Creative Industries Quarter', based around the historic core.
You can place a pin marker onto the map and add your comments to tell us:
- if we have identified the right broad location for the CBD
- if there are any other areas that should be included or excluded.
- if we have identified the right area for the proposed Creative Industries Quarter.
Pink line = current definition of the CBD
Green area = proposed broad location for revised CBD
