Eastwood Drive/Manor Road Consultation Update

Residents from the Eastwood Drive/North Street area raised concerns about the speed and volume of traffic using Eastwood Drive to access either Burton Road or the Ring Road. In response, several measures were introduced including a point of no entry at North Street's junction with Burton Road; resident parking and the introduction of a 20mph speed limit.

All these measures were supported by local residents and provided some improvement, however, concerns continued to be raised about through traffic and vehicle speeds, especially following important safety improvements to the Manor Road access into Eastwood Drive. It was agreed to consult on closing Eastwood Drive.

As closure of any road on the public highway requires clear justification (because it would mean a removal of a general right of use for all highway users) a public consultation was necessary to ensure all interests and concerns were given an opportunity to be heard prior to any decision being made.

A 12 week consultation was undertaken from the 31st January 2022 until 25th April 2022 to understand whether any of the options presented would be preferred. These were:

  • Option 1 - North Street closed at its junction with Eastwood Drive
  • Option 2 - Manor Road right turn closure into Eastwood Drive
  • Option 3 - No change, retain access as currently provided

Thank you to the 538 people that took part in the consultation.

The Consultation report is now available to read.

Further engagement is being planned to discuss what the consultation results mean for traffic management within the area. Details on this will be provided locally.

Please contact the Littleover or Abbey Neighbourhood team or your local representatives if you have any questions or wish to make comment.
