Electoral Review of Derby City Council
ELECTORAL REVIEW OF DERBY CITY COUNCIL: DRAFT RECOMMENDATIONS
The Local Government Boundary Commission for England has published proposals for new electoral arrangements for Derby. A summary is attached.
The Local Government Boundary Commission for England proposes that 51 councillors should be elected to Derby in future and also proposes new ward boundaries across the authority.
The Local Government Boundary Commission for England is holding a public consultation on the proposals.
The consultation will run from 31 May 2022 to 8 August 2022.
Once the Local Government Boundary Commission for England has considered all responses to the consultation, they aim to publish final recommendations in October 2022 and will then lay a draft order in both houses of Parliament. Subject to parliamentary scrutiny, the new electoral arrangements are scheduled to come into effect at the authority’s elections in 2023.
The Local Government Boundary Commission for England considered all representations received from local people and organisations during their initial consultation when drawing up proposals and sought to balance statutory criteria that must be followed when drawing up these proposals:
- Make sure that, within an authority, each councillor represents a similar number of electors
- Create boundaries that are appropriate, and reflect community ties and identities
- Deliver reviews informed by local needs, views and circumstances
The Local Government Boundary Commission for England are now inviting comments on the proposals before finalising the new electoral arrangements in our area. Every response received during the consultation period will be considered and will weigh each response against the criteria above.
