We would like feedback on our draft Private Landlords’ Charter, this has been created to support both existing landlords and those considering becoming landlords. The charter’s purpose is to help landlords better understand their responsibilities and ensure that tenants are provided with safe, well-maintained and suitable accommodation.

The charter sets out the Councils approach to enforcement of statutory requirements with regard to the actions we will take. Whilst the legal requirements are outside the scope of the consultation, we wish to ensure that the Charter sets out these statutory requirements and how the Council are able to respond.

Following the consultation we will analyse the comments received and feedback around changes to the Charter and also if recommended changes are not implemented, the reasons why.

The consultation runs until midnight, Tuesday 26 May 2026.

For more information or to request this survey in an alternative format please contact John Sheil on email: housing.strategy@derby.gov.uk or telephone: 01332 640000
