What this consultation is about

Local Nature Recovery Strategies are a new system of plans for nature and environmental improvement across England.

The purpose of these plans is to establish priorities and proposals to help nature to thrive and provide wider environmental benefits in the future.

Derbyshire County Council is responsible for the preparation of the Local Nature Recovery Strategy for Derbyshire (including Derby City), following guidance set out by the Government’s Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra).

The Local Nature Recovery Strategy will:

  • Map our most valuable existing habitats
  • Agree priorities for reversing the decline in biodiversity
  • Map opportunities for nature recovery and wider environmental goals

Over the past 12 months we’ve worked hard alongside partners and local residents to look at what could and should be done to improve the natural environment across the city and county as well as identifying how and where work needs to take place.

We’ve taken the thousands of comments and views on board and used them to create a draft strategy for how councils, businesses, landowners, land managers and other organisations will work together in the future to make sure nature and habitats on our doorsteps can thrive and survive.

You are invited to comment on the draft strategy which is available through the following link: Public Consultation on the Draft Strategy - Derbyshire's Nature Recovery Strategy (opens in new window).
