Markeaton Primary School is a mainstream school with an enhanced resource provision (ERP) for children with a visual impairment with an Educational Health and Care (EHC) Plan (aged 4-11). Enhanced resource provisions are places that are reserved at a mainstream school for pupils with a specific type of SEND, taught for at least half of their time within mainstream classes, but requiring a base and some specialist facilities around the school.

The ERP at Markeaton Primary School currently has no children attending due to a reduction in demand across the city for specific provision for children with visual impairment. No pupils have been identified as needing this provision in the academic year 2024/25. In the academic year 2023/24 there was one child accessing the base, and three children accessing the year prior. These children have now progressed into mainstream secondary schools and no new pupils have been identified as requiring this support at primary age.

The proposal does not alter the provision offered to children with special educational needs and disabilities within the mainstream school at Markeaton Primary School.
