As the Licensing Authority for the Council, there is a responsibility for the regulation of both the Hackney Carriage & Private Hire trades that operate within the city. That duty is to promote public safety by the effective regulation of licence holders, by virtue of sections 47 and 48 of the Local Governments (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976.
It is widely accepted that both the Hackney and Private Hire trades play an important part of our transportation system. As such, it is necessary to ensure that once the person is granted a permission, that they adhere to the terms and conditions of that authorisation.
Whilst specific conditions have been updated over time, it is felt timely to ensure that the requirements are reviewed completely to ensure they are fit for the current purpose.
Please read the proposed conditions which show the existing and any proposed changes. You can give your feedback, suggestions or comments using the following email links:
If you have any comments on the conditions in general, feedback can also be submitted to taxi.licensing@derby.gov.uk
We will be receiving feedback on the proposed changes to Conditions until midnight on Wednesday 18 November 2026.
