School parking has been identified as a long-standing problem in the West Road, Church Street area of Spondon due in part to the close proximity of three schools: West Park secondary school, St Werburghs Primary and Springfield Primary. The Active Travel fund has provided an opportunity to address some of the issues associated with school run congestion and parking in the West Road and Church Street area.

Consultation was undertaken earlier this year (March-May 2021) to understand people's views on parking in the area during school drop-off and pick-up times. Thank you to the 184 people that gave their feedback.

Following analysis of the consultation data and discussions with the project group our next steps will be:

  • Obtaining quotes for the St Werburghs Pedestrian Gate, with the hope that this could be installed by the end of 2021.
  • An order has already been placed for additional bollards on Devas Garden, these should be in place in the coming weeks.
  • Work has started on detailed design of the Pedestrian refuge and associated parking restrictions, further details will be shortly available here: Traffic Regulation Orders - Derby City Council
  • Additional parking surveys have been undertaken at Church Street carpark to gauge a better understanding of parking at school drop off and pick up times.
  • Consideration will be given to respondent’s alternative suggestions
