School Term Dates Consultation 2025-26 and 2026-27
Consultation has concluded
Derby city Council are consulting on the term dates for the academic years spanning 2025-26 and 2026-27. This revised consultation has arisen due to the feedback we received on the initial consultation which took place between December 2023 and January 2024.
Consultation feedback identified that alternative term arrangements would impact positively on pupil attendance and achievement. Therefore, we are now consulting on Option A and Option B as detailed in the survey below.
We are looking to set the dates for two academic years, 2025-2027, and then review again based on the impact these alternate dates might have.
We will endeavour to have the dates approved by Council Cabinet as soon as possible following the consultation period.
All suggested annual term dates cover 195 Days – which include up to 5 days to be taken as INSET days.
Background:
School terms and holiday dates are set by the council each year in consultation with parents, headteachers, governing bodies, neighbouring LAs, professional associations, Diocesan Boards of Education, FE Colleges, HE Universities, Trade Unions and any other interested stakeholder.
Councils need to set the school term dates for maintained schools, they must be open to pupils for 190 days in an academic year and 195 days for teachers.
Foundation, trust, voluntary aided schools and academies are responsible for setting their own holiday dates and so individual schools, which are not maintained by the local authority may choose to follow a pattern and/or specific dates that do not match those set by by Derby City Council.
When setting proposed dates we have, where possible, tried to take account of dates/patterns already set by our local authority neighbours.
This consultation is now closed.
