Buildings are the UK’s second largest source of emissions (after surface transport). There has been no sustained reduction in emissions from buildings in the last decade, reflecting low levels of annual home energy efficiency improvements.

Derby is a compact city of 30 square miles with around 111,227 homes. 11.4% of homes in the city are owned by the local authority, 7.4% by private registered landlords and the majority (81.1%) are privately owned.
