Haslam’s Foundry
This consultation is aimed at gathering feedback on some suggested proposals around the redevelopment of the Haslam’s Foundry site. Derby City Council bought the former Haslam Foundry (Aida Engineering) site in 2018. It had been derelict for around 15 years at that point.
The main reason for buying it was to build a new flood defence across the site as part of the Our City Our River programme, which we completed in 2020. About half of the site, on the river side, has been grassed over and cannot be built on. The remaining site, between the flood wall and Chester Green, can now be redeveloped.
There is a major need for more affordable homes in Derby, and there is money available to develop them.
Our designs for the site are not final yet, but we want to share them with the community and get some feedback before we submit a planning application. If we are successful in getting planning permission, and the Cabinet approves the investment, work on the site could begin late in 2022. You can read more about our plans in our background document.
