Onslow Road BMX track
We have been working with a group of residents since the end of the Beat the Street Derby game, to learn and understand ways that together we could support Mickleover and Mackworth residents to be active, after the game finished.
Residents told us they had enjoyed the community based physical activity opportunity but there are a lack of safe informal recreational spaces, particularly for our young people and families in the local community.
Further resident engagement work has taken place and through this the Onslow Road BMX track (situated within Mickleover Meadows) was identified as an area for increasing physical activity opportunities. Several community tidy up events have taken place at this site to improve the condition and aesthetics of it, now we are keen to learn more about people’s awareness of the track, their current engagement levels and any barriers which may be preventing people from using this space.
Through this survey we aim to learn whether there is a need and desire from the community to undertake a larger scale re-development of the track, as well as the impact that could have on local people.
Feedback from this survey will be used to help inform any future developments and associated applications for funding. At this stage, funding has not been secured to refurbish the track. However, if residents and users feel that this would enhance physical activity opportunities within the local area then this will be valuable input towards future funding applications’
