Derby City Council are committed to delivering a safe, inclusive, and sustainable transport network that revives city centre streets, improves quality of life for everyone in Derby, and allows people to stay connected to jobs, key services, and each other. Our ambition is to revitalise walking, cycling, and public transport provision across the city.
Together with Nottingham City Council, we have successfully secured over £162m from the DfT’s Transforming Cities Fund (TCF) and Active Travel Fund (ATF). This project is located in the Spot area of Derby City Centre and our proposals hope to create:
improved connectivity along St Peter's Street and Babington Lane that makes these streets pedestrian and disabled user friendly
more attractive unified streets that strengthen the feeling of place and create local identity
a contraflow cycle lane that is partly segregated from vehicles
relocation of Blue Badge Holder parking provision to Gower Street that has level access onto the street
wider pavements with tree planting and attractive new sitting areas that incorporate disability accessible seats
improved level crossing areas at the junction of London Road and Osmaston Road
improved level crossing areas at the junction of Babington Lane and Gower Street
Earlier in the year we asked you for comments and suggestions to help us to develop our plans for this area. Thank you to everyone that gave their feedback. Where possible we have incorporated this feedback to develop our proposals and would appreciate your feedback again now to help us determine the next steps. Please look at our plan (in Documents) and complete our short survey.

This consultation is aimed at gathering feedback on some suggested proposals around the Spot in Derby City Centre. The project area is from Gower Street, into Babington Lane, St Peter's Street to its junction with Osmaston Road and London Road. The proposals are designed to improve the safety and connectivity of the area for pedestrians, improving active travel options, reducing vehicular traffic and providing new locations for public transport options. It is intended that these proposals also build on the measures that have been introduced in the past.
We would appreciate your feedback on the more detailed proposals outlined to help us determine the next steps. Please complete our short survey.
The survey will be open for 12 weeks, closing on Sunday 16 January 2022.
For more information, or to request a survey in another format such as paper copy, please contact Robert Waite on 01332 642264 or email tcf@derby.gov.uk
